So... yeah... my first attempt on modding. Ever.
I am fairly sure that everyone in the community know the above cursed crash message from Civ5 ;)
Anyway, this is where I am stuck:
I have been thinning out, isolating stuff, changing stuff in my mod...
Building mod - aaaand crashing Civ5 a 1000 times over now.
Base ideas:
The Assimilitic people shun religion based on their violent history with multi-deitic civilizations.
So followers of religion in cities give a science and production penalty, but cities with no followers have a production and science bonus. The prophets are to "convert" believers into secular followers when used in a city (ie. change them back to not following any religion).
Trait: Secular Power
The birth rate of Great Scientists is increased. Gun units can make 2 attacks per round.
Future thoughts and stuff left out in an attempt to make a non-crashing version:
I want to make the above mentioned changes as to how religion works for this Civ. Here is the post with details on that: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=481767
Theology should not even be available in the research tree, but simply turning it off will likely shut down any researchables after Theology. Any workaround for this?
I want to implement a building called Manufactory - maybe simply changing it out for the Factory:
"Although more expensive to maintain than regular factories, these gigantic factory complexes are not only productive facilities but also functions as cultural landmarks attesting to great productivity and ingenuity."

I have been using Kael's wonderful guide to modding :king: (as every new modder should). And in so doing I kindof ripped off his Civilopedia texts and rewrote them a bit to fit my ideas (also, I wanted to get started with the actual modding quickly) - so Kael, if you read this by chance, please let me know if I should change the Civilopedia entries further, thanks.
Civilopedia text on General Hecklar:
Spoiler:
General Hecklar, also known as Manufactorum General Haeg-Laar, is a direct descendant of the ancient leaders of the Assmitic tribes who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]Hecklar's forefather Lothar, the head of the Assimitic nomad tribes at the time who had ruled as a nominally independent ally of Rome, left his kingdom jointly to his sons and the Roman Emperor in his will. However, when he died his will was ignored. The kingdom was annexed as if conquered, Lothar's sons were hunted down, and Roman financiers called in their loans.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]In about AD 70, while the Roman governor, Gaius Aurelius, was leading a campaign on an area now known as central Russia, Lothar led his people, along with other nomadic tribes, in revolt.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]On hearing the news of the revolt, Aurelius hurried to Maeniskus (Minsk), the 30 year-old commercial settlement that was the rebels' next target. Concluding he did not have the numbers to defend it, Aurelius evacuated and abandoned it. It was burnt to the ground. An estimated 70,000–80,000 people were killed in the three cities. Aurelius, meanwhile, regrouped his forces in the West Midlands, and despite being heavily outnumbered, defeated a large opposing force in that area. The crisis caused the emperor Nero to consider withdrawing all Roman forces from Central Russia.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]Lothar has since remained an important cultural symbol in the secular part of Russia. The absence of native Russian literature during the early part of the first millennium means that Russia owes its knowledge of Lothar's rebellion to the writings of the Romans. Lothar's rebellion against the multi-deitic Roman Empire has been said to have infused the Assimilitic secular culture, denouncing the existence of Gods and embracing the pursuit of Science.
Civilopedia text on the Civ:
Spoiler:
The Assimilitic people are driven by their hunger for production and their thirst for science.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]The earliest archaeological culture commonly accepted as Assimilitic, or rather Proto-Assimilitic, was from a number of central European cultures (ca. 800-450 BC), named from the way the first Assimilitic nomads went from town to town and literally assimilated the towns into their own growing secular empire. By the later period (ca. 450 BC up to the Roman conquest), the Assimilitic culture had expanded over a wide range of regions, whether by diffusion, migration or assimilation: from Russia to the British Isles, the Iberian Peninsula, much of Central Europe, and following the Assimilitic invasion of central Anatolia.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]The earliest directly attested examples of a Assimilitic language are the Assimii inscriptions, beginning from the 6th century BC. Continental Assimilitic languages are attested only in inscriptions and place-names.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]By the early 1st millennium AD, following the expansion of the Roman Empire and the Great Migrations (Migration Period) of Germanic peoples, Assimilitic culture had become restricted to mountains and planes of Russia. This secular people, widely known for their apathy towards religion, their ingenious craftsmanship and their innovative technology await their destiny...
I can select the mod from the mod list, select single player, choose General Hecklar from the list. Everything works so far.
But hitting "Start game" crashes to above linked error message.
I hope you cam help me to get this to work. Credits ofcourse due to anyone providing useful solutions or content. I sooo want to play my own civ and subsequently be able to publish it :)
