The question seems to beg the answer 'it depends on what you want...' etc, but what I'm really asking is whether some of you more, let's say, accomplished mod-users could share a few of your best mod experiences (both in terms of content and playability) with the rest of your fellow apples.
After all, testing mods is a time-consuming (and sometimes frustrating) business, and what's more, the whole ordeal of making mods work to begin with tends to further discourage casual gamers from even attempting to 'meddle' with civ software.
If there is anything to this little idea of mine, then I guess this could be the beginning of a nice and helpful thread. Again, it all depends on the charitable mood of you seasoned 'meddlers' out there.
