Trying to rehost a multiplayer but difficulty is reset to prince

Hello,

I have been playing Gods and Kings multiplayer games on LAN (the game was installed through Steam). A glitch has ruined several.

First, some error causes one player to immediately quit (driver error, overheating shutdown, etc.). Then, upon trying to rehost any save file or autosave of that game, all the player difficulties are set to prince regardless of their original setting. When selecting the save file, it gives the correct difficulty in that information window with the circles, but when it is loaded it sets it to prince.

Does anyone know how to revert this and host the file with the correct difficulties?

What especially confuses me about this is that it's not just the most recent save that has had difficulties altered; every save file from throughout the game has somehow been changed. I've tried emptying the cache but the same files reappear when the game is restarted.

Similar crashes do not cause any problems with singleplayer saves, which I can reload with the correct difficulty.

EDIT: I should clarify that if the multiplayer game is saved and exited normally, the correct difficulties are preserved when it is rehosted.
