Hi,
I do usually play and win emperor on std maps, either continents of pangea, sometimes earth, always through domination victory - complete kills rather than just snipe capitals. I rarely try immortal which is not unbeatable for me however too repetitively boring given the amount of troops you have to clean up every war. I play generally tradition but sometimes honor if the map around is not fit for tall 4x cities. Every culture or religion path is dedicated towards happiness.
Well my problem is on the inconsiderate extensions of some future to be deceased neighbours. Really there are patch of lands around my starting locations (tundra / 1 tile islands) that are NOT worth settling. Waste of settlers, waste of happiness. I try to buy off as far as I can but this doesn t always is enough.
There is always the odd rubbish city in the corner, on the lone 1 tile island which are a complete pain in the game. You cannot spend the game 100% at war with all players to snipe settlers and you cannot settle every bit of land without suffering from happiness.
Even sometimes when a war drags on some AI resettle where I razed and burned.
It gets worse if you use standard number of AI on each size map. I found it less painful (less empty land to fill) by adding 2 to 4 AI to the standard number.
I just don t know what to do anymore. There is no colony or vassal option and forbidden city is rarely buildable on emperor so it's necessarily puppet, puppet but the game ends up being a constant fight for happiness bits. Right boring.
Any clue ? Any idea ? How to prevent the spam of odd cities that kill the feeling of the map and make it ultimately super boring to wipe at the end ?
