Iron issues + Longbowmen

I've not played for a good while until the last 10 days so sorry if these have been done before, i am finding that if i upgrade a Legion to Longswordsman i suddenly don't have enough Iron and get the message that they will fight at a lower level, this happens even when it says i have Iron left and continues to happen even if i delete units.

Also If i am the English the Longbowmen have 2 range and not 3 so they are basically just Crossbowmen meaning the English have lose their special unit.
