Gods and Kings Freezing When Leader Screens Try to Load

Hello everyone!!

So I have been having a problem with Civ V: Gods and Kings that is pretty much breaking the game for me. Regardless of whatever time period I am in or my progress in the game, my game is almost always crashing whenever leader screens are supposed to pop up, such as when an AI player proposes a treaty of some kind. For the most part, the screen just goes black for a little while and freezes up. About half of the time the game music continues playing but I am still left with a black screen. And even more rarely, the game will freeze for a little bit and then the leader screen will pop up and everything runs smooth until the next leader proposes something. What is going on here? I haven't had any problems with Civ V until I decided to download Gods and Kings about five days ago, and since then I have had nothing but problems trying to run this game. My system is well within the requirement:

Windows 7 64-bit
i7 @ 2.8GHz
6GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 470
1.5TB HDD
+other crap
