I enjoy trade routes. You can just beam your religion at heathens. :p
I was casually building up a religion as Portugal recently and noticed something crazy when I moused over a city state. My single trade route to it was providing 22 religious pressure. Which I guessed was Religious Texts (+50%) + Grand Temple (+100%) + World Religion (faster?) working their magic. (I assume world religion is a 25% boost from my mad math skillz.)
Playing as Arabia would add another 50% (33 pressure!). Playing as Byzantium and combining religious texts with that double spread to friendly city states would also be insane (44 pressure!).
I can't say there's massive game-play value here but it's tremendously fun to flip an opponents holy city with a few trade routes. :D
