Hello, I've been playing this game on and off for a couple years now, mostly during the summers, and while I've gotten pretty good at winning on the Noble difficulty level, I still occasionally lose on Prince, and have yet to win a game on Monarch.
My general strategy is as follows:
By 1 AD I generally have about 5 - 7 cities either by settling them or by conquest, with a chunk a land cordoned off from the AI for later settling. Usually 1 academy has been built or is just about ready. At this point I'm shooting for Currency as sometimes I expand to the point that my economy is collapsing.
My tech tree path is generally Mining -> bronze working -> The Wheel or Agriculture depending on what the Civ doesn't have -> animal husbandry -> writing -> Alphabet
After Alphabet I fill in with a lot of tech trading, then I tech Currency.
Then from there I go Aesthetics -> Literature, where I try for the Great Library. I also try for the Great Lighthouse which sometimes don't succeed at, and the Mausoleum of Maussollos once I either tech or trade for Calender.
From there it's straight to Liberalism, with Philosophy either teched or bulbed from a Great Scientist. Generally I can get to it by 1200 ad, more or less. I usually pick Nationalism for my free tech and build the Taj Mahal for the Golden Age. Once built I use additional Great People to chain another 2 or 3 Golden Ages together.
After the Taj Mahal is built that's usually when I ramp up military production. I either go Cannons + Musketmen/Riflemen or just Cavalry, depending on the state of the other Civs. I'm usually ready to start this war by 1500-1700 or so, and win during the 1800s, if I do win that is.
Noble is very easy but Prince can still be difficult at times for me, I even lost a game because the AI had advanced too far ahead technologically. People on this board win harder games much quicker at much earlier times, so can anyone help me out on how to improve my Prince and Monarch games?
