Liberating your own cities

Apologies if this is a topic done to death, but I found out something interesting yesterday.

I was planning vanilla Civilization V, and it happened to be the first time that I've ever liberated one of my own cities.

Before the liberated city was originally conquered, my global happiness was at -1.

I managed to liberate the conquered city right after it was conquered, so there was no opportunity to gain additional happiness. I believe the city was size 2 or 3 before it was conquered.

However, my global happiness after liberating the city was +4, not -1 like I expected. I also was not playing as India.

It's almost like liberating the city removed the separate city unhappiness bonus or something.

Have you guys noticed similar things when you liberate your own cities?
