I figured I would create this thread as a companion to the Ask a Question thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=383126
Here we shall relate tips and facts about the game that are quite expertly hidden (or otherwise absent from in-game descriptions  ). It may be about any kind of factual point that just somehow is not yet located anywhere edible in the Strategy forum or elsewhere.
So I'll go first:
Did you know...?
Oasis tiles are considered to be lakes. Cities built next to them can build Gardens. They are sources of freshwater, so adjacent tiles (probably desert) yield +2 food farms with Civil Service. They also reject tile improvements. Citadels cannot be built on them, even though they are traversable land.
The avoid growth checkbox, in addition to informing the citizen governor (tile work selector), actually prevents growth in cities. Cities will not create food to the full point. It 100% guarantees population stays fixed, giving total control over unhappiness.
Please use the bold header for the tip in each post. :king:
