Global Warming

Download v.5

Late Game Climate Simulator
This mod creates the possibility that Global Warming will affect the game world. Once any Civilization has entered the Industrial Era, there is a chance that a Global Warming Event will strike a tile.
These events can range from melting ice to desertification to brutal hurricanes. As the world grows warmer, Global Warming Events will happen more frequently and will tend to be more destructive.
Both Map Size and Game Speed are taken into account when calculating event probability.

Spoiler:

Factors that increase the frequency and intensity of Global Warming Events
  • World Population
  • Polar Melting
  • Chopping Forests and Jungles
  • Building Oil Wells, Platforms and Mines
  • Constructing certain buildings, including Factories and Iron Works. (Some buildings, including Solar and Hydro plants, mitigate Global Warming.)
  • Researching certain technologies, including Combustion and Electricity. (Some techs, including Ecology and Fusion, mitigate Global Warming.)
  • Nuclear Fallout

Compatibility
  • Vanilla and Gods & Kings Expansion
  • Any map type
  • Any saved game
  • Any mod, as long as it includes the Industrial Era.

Supported Languages
  • English, German and French

Changing Mod Options
Don’t like some aspect of this mod? You can easily change most settings by editing this file:
GlobalWarmingOptions.lua
This file is in the ‘Global Warming’ folder in your Civ 5 MODS folder.
Open the file with a text editor (e.g. WordPad), change any option you want, then save and close.
Notes explain the effects of all options. Changes will not take place until you reload a saved game or start a new game.

Troubleshooting
Some tile changes will not accurately display on the map until you save and reload the game. Tooltips will always display correct terrain information.
