Which version to get? Advice sought...

I've a longtime fan of the Civ series, but only recently got a Mac that can handle Civ 5. (I've been working with a much older machine and have just been playing Beyond the Sword and Colonization again and again....)

I'm a bit bewildered by all the different CIV 5 variants that seem to be available-- Steam, Mac Appstore, etc. I've read a couple of stickies/threads that described them, but I'm still not 100% sure I've figured out what's gonna be best for me. So, I thought maybe I'd ask for suggestions based on how I expect to play.

1) I'm going to be a solo player only. I don't plan to do any multiplayer play. Really. none at all.
2) I am very interested in adding the "Gods and Kings" expansion, probably ASAP. I don't want a version where I can't add that.
3) I'm not sure how interested I am in other expansion packs.... I'm willing to give 'em a try, but being able to play a specific one or another is not a make or break deal for me.
4) Being able to play mods would be nice, particularly if there are any comparable to "Rhye's and Fall of Civilization" (from CIV 4). If there's a version of the basic game that makes playing those easier, I'd like that. But, again, it's not a make-or-break deal.

Based on that, can anyone suggest which version of the basic game might be the best one for me to get?
