Windows 7-32 bit. Can't play Civ II

I am desperate for help guys! Civilization II is my favorite game. I bought a copy in the 90s and have played it ever since. However I can't get it to work on my Windows 7 machine.

I have windows 7, home premium - 32 bit, and Civ II classic edition (I think). It installs ok. When I go to play I get to chose Language then it stops loading and an error message comes up as follows: NTVDM.EXE has stopped working. Program will close.

I've tried running it in compatibilty mode and still no luck.
