[BTS] Calculating/Balancing Tech Costs for a Smooth Gameplay

Hi, I'm making a simple modpack, and I stumbled upon this issue. I simply couldn't balance the technology costs. In my tech tree, every era have 4 levels and and every level has 7 techs (pic related). To be stable, I'm making tech cost of each tech in the same level equal to each other (I will "fine tune" them later). And I made up a formula like:

LVL2 <iCost> = LVL1 <iCost> + 50
LVL3 <iCost> = LVL2 <iCost> + 100
LVL4 <iCost> = LVL3 <iCost> + 150

...and so on. But naturally it didn't work well. In earlier stages, research is a pain in the ass, while in the later eras, you can research a tech in 4-5 turns. I don't want it this way, I want a stable and ever-challenging research speed, for a more fulfilling gameplay experience.

So anyone got a magic formula for this? I believe I should use an exponential approach but I suck at maths at this point.
