My current game I'm playing as Babylon for a science victory, Emperor, small continents. I usually play domination games but thought I'd do something different. I am currently at turn 266 and 20 techs from victory. I'm generating 642 bpt. I feel this is much lower than it should be. My capital is 11 pop and my largest city is 14. I have 4 settled cities and 1 puppet.
Clearly my cities are much too small. I've realized I don't know how to go tall. My capital is next to a mountain and river, on the coast. I have fish and 2 clams. There are numerous jungle tiles with trading posts and the rest are plains and hills. No grasslands and the river is short, 1 tile long. My growth seemed to get worse as I plopped down more and more academies on the plains.
So how do you get big cities, especially with a science focus and no huge food tiles? My largest city has cows, horses, and a fish tile. It had one grassland prior to an academy on it. I'd like to blame it all on the map type, but I never have huge cities in my games so I think it is me.
